New Aprons!

I'm excited to show you a couple new aprons I've just finished! It's been a little while since I've posted, and last month I decided to shut down my local booth at Austin Gift Company because I just haven't been able to keep on top of stock lately. The good news is I hope to be shifting a bit more focus back on my Etsy shop! So I've been sprucing things up there, and have plans for more to come. I decided to give all my aprons names as an easier way to keep track of them, so they've all been Christened now. ;-)

First up is actually an apron from a pattern, B6304. This is the first time I've used a pattern for one of my aprons, but I saw this bodice/bib and really liked the way it fit around the bust so I wanted to try it out. I will probably adapt this a bit into my own pattern, but wanted to try it straight the first time! I named this one PENNY!

Next is an apron that is directly inspired by some vintage pattern art, #1 in red here.

I wanted to try this because I love the fact that it's apparently just a big giant square of fabric turned diagonally, trimmed with lace all the way around, and gathered a bit at the waist with ties added! I'm always enchanted by how simple flat shapes can become so interesting, how 2D becomes 3D. I named this one JUNE!

These are up in my shop now, I hope to have more available soon!

Veggie Apron

Today I finished up a fun little project commissioned by a client, I call it the Veggie Apron. :-) This was the fabric she chose! I thought the uneven red dots looked a lot like the strawberries.

I gave her a couple options for the fabric placement...

She chose to go with the red fabric add the waistband, and this was the result.

Apron Pinspiration

I've been neglecting my booth at Austin Gift Company, and need to make some stock to take over soon! Specifically I need to make some aprons, so I'm trying to find some inspiration via Pinterest for a new-ish retro design. Here are some of my favorite finds so far!

Pinspiration Monday

Just a short one today, saw this vintage pattern and thought it was so cool!

It's an apron, but it could just as easily be a dress. I love how the button tabs around the waist slip through the front to button. And it looks like the shoulders have buttons and loops to attach? And once again, there's a flat front on the gathered skirt. I'd love to recreate this!

Little Fashionista Costume Aprons

Remember the Old Hollywood Costume Aprons? Well apparently they were a hit at my client's theme party store! The only problem was, she had younger girls wanting a similar product, and these were meant for teen sizes. So she ordered 10 aprons for younger girls, and their party will be called Little Fashionistas! I just sent off the order yesterday, but was able to snap a few pics first. I was in a hurry to get them packed up so apologies for the sub-par quality.

These were super fun to dream up and make, I just love a fancy non-utilitarian apron purely for the fun of it! :-)

Old Hollywood Costume Aprons

I had an interesting request last month from someone who is opening up a theme party venue for kids and teens. One of the themes is Old Hollywood, and she asked if I could make 15 costume aprons for teens based on iconic dresses like Audrey Hepburn's little black Breakfast at Tiffany's dress, Marilyn Monroe's white dress, etc. It was a project right up my alley! I did several based on specific dresses, and then the rest were just retro inspired fancy dresses.

Here are the results, aprons on the left.

Audrey Hepburn - Breakfast at Tiffany's
Marilyn Monroe - Pink Dress while singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend"
Marilyn Monroe - Iconic White Dress

Elizabeth Taylor
Grace Kelly - Rear Window
I Love Lucy Red Gingham Dress

I Love Lucy - Classic Polka Dot Dress
