I thought for a while about which pattern to use and settled on Retro Butterick 6175, an out of print pattern that I had seen and fallen in love with. Luckily I was able to find a copy close to my size on Etsy.
It was pretty simple to put together, the most involved part was the gathered sleeves. I'm very pleased with how they turned out!
This makes my 4th Vintage Pledge item, only one more to go!
One of my favorite parts of this dress is the back, I love how the sleeves meet the bodice and the shape they create at the back.
This was my first time doing a center zipper that didn't go all the way to the top.
I did my usual skirt gathering preference, leaving most of the fullness in the sides and back and leaving the front flat.
I almost forgot to snap a pic with the sweater that inspired it all, lol, but it works just as well as I'd hoped!
I've really got to work on a happier concentration face! |
That's a bit better! |
A little higher, I think... |
Love it, that dress is flattering and so lovely!

Thanks Ramona! :-)
ReplyDeleteU look so pretty in your dress. good job! and i like the elastic waist band. neat idea
ReplyDeleteThanks virtual fashionista! The waist stay is actually made of grosgrain ribbon, not elastic, it helps keep the waist in place with all that skirt to hold up. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Stephanie! You have a real gift for sewing and for fabric selection and I am jealous!
ReplyDeleteAww thank you Lee Ann!
ReplyDeleteThat's so gorgeous, Stephanie! I'm not a yellow girl normally, but I really love this and it looks fabulous on you! :)

Thanks Valerie! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is gorgeous and such a lucky find - it looks as if the sweater was made for it (or vice versa). I cannot wear yellow, but Valerie is right - it looks fabulous on you. Congrats on another vintage project done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteI usually make my waist stay with grosgrain and hook and eyes. I like your way better!
How do you add the swim hooks...fold over the ribbon and sew in pockets?
